Under the guidance of the founder, percussionist Lorenzo Gasperoni, Mamud Band has succeeded in standing out for over 25 years in many rock, reggae jazz and world music festivals in Italy and worldwide, thanks to its innovation, originality in composition and its prestigious soloists.

Many important musicians have contributed to band’s recordings and live performances, among them, the legendary trumpet player Lester Bowie for Amore Pirata cd, the drummer Tony Allen, the percussionist Harouna Dembele, the reggae singer Bunna and the saxophonist Jessica Lurie.

The ensemble is characterized by its skillful and intense percussion section, including two percussionist and one drummer. Through ongoing research and “on-site” interactions, they have evolved a personal and powerful style combining elements of funk and African, Brazilian, Cuban, Jamaican and Afro-American music heritages,  which is the main feature of Mamud Sound.

In 1996 the band launched his first album La Vendetta di Grog, which was fully composed by Lorenzo Gasperoni, under the influence of the jazz masters Steve Lacy and Archie Sheep. In the same year, after releasing, the band was chosen to represent Italy at Biennale of young artists from Europe and the Mediterranean.

1998 was the year of Amore Pirata, a record about West Europe gypsy tradition, featuring with the afro american jazz legend Lester Bowie. In the same year, Mamud became a big band of 15 members and collaborated with several musicians and italian jazz musicians like Gianluca Petrella, Riccardo Pittau, Tito Manjalaio Ranter, Guglielmo Pagnozzi, Simone Mauri and many others.

In 2010 Mamud Band released the record Opposite People, entirely inspired and dedicated to Fela Kuti, the great Nigerian Master and creator of afro-beat genre.

In 2013 came out the band’s Manifesto, Afro Future Funk, composed by 12 original compositions. AFF explores different sounds, that the musicians love deeply and play so creatively, such as: funk, afro-beat, Malian blues, Yoruba tradition, Jamaican reggae, Ethiopian and South-African jazz. The result is a whirling & pumping sound, specifically created for dancing.

In 2016 the band released the live album Dynamite On Stage!, recorded in a crazy, furious, wild concert at Biko Club in Milan. In this album there are two remixes, by B. aka Bruno Fiengo and Fana aka Stefano Greco.
